Title: City in Transition
2017
Chauburji (literal meaning: 4 towers) is a Mughal era monument in the city of Lahore. It was built in 1646 C.E. during the reign of the emperor Shah Jahan and functioned as gateway to a large garden. The recent construction of the orange line (a high speed train) near this 400 year old structure was adding pressure on the monument, and threatening the structures stability. The monument is protected under the law. As the development projects continued within the old city different heritage cites were increasingly becoming vulnerable.
I created an installation that aims to capture the t fragile state and temporal nature of the heritage site.
Sugar sculpture 2ft by 2ft
Time duration - Installation changes over 3 days.
